The Shadblow Serviceberry is a shrub or small tree that grows 25 to 30 feet tall and 15 to 20 feet wide. It is native to Eastern North America. The Shadblow Serviceberry is one of the earliest native trees to flower in the spring. Its fragrant beautiful white flowers bloom before leaves appear on other trees in the spring. Its flower nectar attracts butterflies. Flowers give way to edible purple black berries in early summer. Shadblow Serviceberry berries are used in making jams, jellies and pies. The berries are eaten by songbirds, bluebirds and robins. The Shadblow Serviceberry is a stunning fall foliage tree with orange, gold, red and green leaves.
